This is the second time I've listed First Samuel, Chapter 8 ...but this time I want to approach it from a different perspective.

"He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some will run ahead of his chariots.  These sons will reap the King's harvests, and make his instruments of war.  And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, cooks, and bakers.  He will take your fields, vineyards, and olive gardens, even the best of them, and give them to his servants ...to serve him.  He will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men ...and put them to work, for him."

If we serve two masters, then we will be so busy we will not be able to give adequate time to the One we should be serving.  When we give ourselves to God, we serve Him.

God also gave us service in the special unit He created ...called the family.

This special unit is called marriage, where husband and wife come together in His Name ...and they teach and train children.

My wife prefers the word 'teach', saying that we train dogs.  I do believe we also serve ourselves well to 'potty-train' both.

And it seems well evident that one wife is the way it is designed ...as we see quite clearly how disastrous it was for Solomon to attempt to serve so many, he hindered his serving the Lord.

As it is also with people, it holds true for activity also.  What 'things' do we put first?

Put Him first, and it will elevate everyone else who is significant in your life ...or if not, it should at least elevate your prayer life concerning them.

There is very little that is more of a privilege than praying for someone.

Just ask, and you will receive ...not worldly goods, but God's rich blessings.
